When I put my week old Scirocco's Vin Number into the many Decoders on the internet, it come out as an unspecified VW built in Portugal in 1981!!!

Without knowing which you are using.....

The chassis year for a week ago is wvwzzz13zBV0*****

The chassis year for 1981 is wvwzzz53zBK0*****

B is the year of manufacture. I think the reason they can allow it to repeat is because the Type numbers for VW models have moved on and so the chassis number is unique as a combination but the year of manufacture isn't.

The decoder is recognising the factory V for Palmela, Portugal as against K for Karmann at Onsabruck, Germany.

But not recognising the Type 13 ie Mk3, instead of 53, ie. Mk1/2.

Strange it assumes Portugal as V, cos V used to be Westmorland USA where they made the VW Rabbit( Golf) until the factory closed in 1989.
