Maybe you need parking sensors too :?

Or VW entered each car into a raffle to choose which cars would get it

When getting the car fixed this week I am going to ask the guy to hook it up to Germany and see if the MDI can be updated, I think it's more to do with the firmware of the software as the user manual talks about it but doesn't mention what option you would need in order for it to work.

Thankfully my alloys are still in new condition, no scuffs or scratches, mirror down would help maintain this.

Does everyone who has this option also have Xenons?

I'm gonna be gutted if this is only on xenon cars, especially as mine's been built early so I can't add them :(

I just can't understand if that is the case - there is no extra hardware involved... :sadbanana:

Had a play with VAG-COM today, managed to enable the option the MDI easily by tweaking the central convenience module coding

BUT

It didnt work, the mirror didnt respond to anything, so there must be more to it.

I'll try coding the system so it thinks it has xenons at some point and see if it works, although not sure the normal lights will function correctly with xenon coding on the module.

Should get the wiring digrams for the car soon, so will be able to see the wiring connectins between the modules which may give some clues aswell.

Are there other different options on the Multifunction Computer for Xenon cars? I'm just wondering if there are Xenon specific options that might mean it's got updated software that other cars don't have.

I'm not sure if anyone managed to get to the bottom of what options on the car you need to have the mirror down option. I got my car yesterday and have folding mirrors and parking sensors, but no xenons. I have the option on the convenience menu and can get the miror to tilt.

It only seems to work if the mirror switch is in the L position. The problem I have is that it doesn't automatically go back up when I drive off, I have to flick the mirror switch to another position. Am I doing something wrong?

Mine doesn't go back up straight away when I drove off, I stopped noticing to be honest but I think if you get to 5-10mph or so it goes back up.

Had a play around with the mirror and reset where I wanted it to go and now it is going back up when I get up to 10-15mph as chr15 said. A very handy feature.

So can anyone decide what option actually enables this? Seems it's not xenon as previously thought!

Might just be as to when the car was actually built, there are some dates on a sticker near the engine to help you determine when the car was assembled.

The reason I'm suggesting this is because on the ETKA parts system, for some parts you can get two types dependent on the build date 08/08 or 10/08 onwards - I'm aware that in some cases you'd get the LHD and RHD versions, but the examples I have seen have been 2 sets for each side therefore there is definitely some diff in cars built before Oct 2008 and after.

Mine was put together in September; I have a lot of options but no Mirror Down.

I asked my dealer today and he told me the mirror down function is part of package called "Light and Convenience 2", which includes a bunch of small things like the well lights, automatic wipers, coming home lights. This package includes the mirror down function and a light under the mirror to light up the curb... This is on the continental spec cars so I'm not sure about how it works in the UK since you guys have different equipment levels...

Just to add to this thread... looking in VCDS using a Ross Tech cable, there is an option to turn on the mirror down function but next to this states "only with memory seats"... not had chance to play with this or find out what extra control box or simiar is needed......
