Locked my keys in the boot
Yesterday I was playing footy with a friend and unfortunately my shorts don't have pockets. Went to change my shoes and closed the doors then realising the keys were in it. Dopeyness on my part, but it turns out getting a friend to drive me 2 hours back home to get the spares was the solution.
Has anyone used locksmiths etc, do they damage the cars?

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
ayc1985, you have my fullest sympathy! I'm so paranoid about doing this, I'm trying to condition myself to always unlock the car before pressing the boot release!

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
Know what you mean. I'm often just getting stuff in and out of the boot. I try to always make myself look at the keys in my hand before I slam the boot shut.
But no idea how you can get in without the keys. Modern cars are so secure these days.

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
Hi
I saw a A5 at the shops the other week, The guy had done the same thing and locked his keys in the boot .
VW assist was trying to get in , spoke the mechanic who say he been at it for 2 hours
.
So this got me thinking , my old passat had a plastic emergency key ! ,
My idea is get a new plastic key cut with NO chip and hind it some where on the car so lease you can get into the car !
What do you think ???

Sounds a good idea if it is possible. A plastic key would get you in to the car but wouldn't let you start it.

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
Well it always seems to be when I'm in the car whether the dooors are unlocked or still auto-locked.mordred1973 wrote:is the boot release always active?
Interesting point - when your lights are in Auto mode the dash and side lights etc. stay on after you have turned the engine off when you main lights have been on. However pressing the boot release turns these off, but not within the first 30 seconds or so of turning off the ignition.
What's that all about ?

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
That's what happened with me in my Accord years ago, around November frozen outside in the middle of a stinking village with no life around. Called the AA (Honda Assist) who came out after two hours of waiting for them, pulled the door slightly out wedged something that looked more like a blood pressure monitor in it and started pumping. Then got a wire coat hanger and tried to pull the boot release up, managed it and got into the boot with the alarm going.
Should work on any car that way, haven't come across one yet where the boot release is locked with the car.

Re: Locked my keys in the boot
Been down to the dealers today. As this scenario had been bugging for a while.
Solution I've taken is to buy for £8.50 + VAT (blagged the VAT
) a metal stub end key. ie. the bit that sticks out when you flip the fob open. The Part Dept made it in 5 minutes on their laser cutter. Maybe Timpsons or the like will do it cheaper
Advantages:
1. The tip of the stub key will flip off the lock cover on the handle as per the hand book instructions.
2. The stub key will work the lock as normal, the protruding stub end is enough to let you turn the lock without undue force.
3. No damage to the Sciroco getting in.
4. It can't be driven away as the immobiliser is not de-activated. (Assuming the key fob is with you, not in the car.)
5. Its 5cm long x 1 cm wide x 0.3cm thick. So very easy to hide on the car (Its not magnetic). No point putting in your wallett/purse as that might have gone in the boot as the same time!
Still have the alarm going off while entering but as you know where the locked in car's keys are, its only for a short duration.
