OBD / ECU port location
Hey all
Sorry if this has been covered or is in he wrong forum but I'm a little short on time just now.
I am blufinning my R tomorrow, just waiting for the device to turn up (£199 for stage 1 - BARGAIN!), but i have no idea where the port is located. Can anyone help? And does anyone know whether I will have an encryption issue? My car was built in May...
Thanks in advance

Re: OBD / ECU port location
sit in the drivers seat & reach your hand closest to the door down & under the dash slightly towards the accelerator pedal & you'll find the bright purple port

eta: guess you got it reset from previous map at that price

NIce one thanks for the speedy response! Will go and check it shortly.
Yeah it was reset from my Astra VXR. Have to say that the stock R is slightly disappointing compared to the stage 1 VXR. I'm hoping this will redress the balance!

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Ha, I knew that comment might prove controversial on here!
The Astra was much more responsive from much lower revs, and more aggressive.
I've just installed the stage 1 on the Roc, but pointless testing it during rush hour around here.
(I shall now stand back and await the torrents.....)

Re: OBD / ECU port location
How much lower in the rev range was it more responsive? Aggressive is not necessarily a good thing either, it makes you think you're going fast but really all it's doing is killing your clutch. But I'm surprised you thought the BF map on the VXR was "aggressive" as that's that's the last word I'd use to describe a BF map. One wonders what the OEM VXR map was like if u felt BF S1 made it aggressive!
Still I look forward to your review of BF on the R.

Re: OBD / ECU port location
The Astra was awesome, seriously. A proper drivers car, believe it or not.
After the remap, there was a colossal difference between normal mode and Sport mode. In sport mode it took off like a steam train from about 2,200 rpm and just kept pulling. It was aggressive in a fun way, it made it a more demanding and challenging drive, but once you got used to the characteristics it was extremely rewarding.
Just had first blast in the S1 R. Doesnt pull any better from lower in the revs (which I wasnt really expecting, having seen the BF graphs anyway) but it definitely feels quicker and rewards a smooth approach on the throttle. Still waiting for damn traffic to die down before I can give it some proper welly.
Will probably go out on a midnight run and report back at about 3am after I plough it into a hedge.

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Astra VXR a proper drivers car? blimey.... tell that to all the motor mags and see if they'll do it as breaking news lol.
think they all hated it for its old tech. but then again, some people like that cos the modern cars have way too many nanny state gizmos on it.
The R engine does like to be revved, and yes i agree it needs at least 2.5k rpm on the clock before boost builds and you hit max torque.
the BF map doesn't add that much on top of the OEM figures from memory but an increase is an increase. Give it time to settle and it should be quite good none the less.
I'm still dithering about whether to mod mine or not. Hmmm.

Supposedly, BHP is up from 261 to 300, and talk is up from 259 (ish?) - 300 which is a fair old increase. Still, I will give it a proper blast later and let you know...
Re: OBD / ECU port location

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Yes mate, I went out late last night when roads were quiet. It is indeed an A road monster! The increase in power from the bf actually feels quite subtle at times but on a good twisty A road it can also feel quite ferocious when you keep it in 'the zone'. Power delivery is still very smooth and the diff still does an incredible job of reigning in any torque steer. Stamp on the throttle too hard and the tyres start feeling like they want to shred but if you're smooth, you can eliminate that and it's very rewarding!
Will spend some more time getting to grips with it over the weekend, but so far I'm really starting to like the bf upgrade.

Any early signs of clutch slip? How many miles u got on the clock?

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Nah clutch seems ok, but then I've only got 1,080 miles on the clock
Has clutch slip been reported or something? If that was the case I'd be tempted to reinstall factory settings to be honest...

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Nope, I'm just looking for guinea pigs wiv manual boxes to test the clutch on the R! So I'm intrigued to see how yours get on. Thanks for sharing

Re: OBD / ECU port location
Ha ha, good effort!
Clutch seems absolutely fine although I am fairly gentle! I wont be dumping the clutch and attempting record breaking 0-60 times off the lights against some 18 year old in a Saxo with an exhaust so big you can see a cat curled up asleep in it.
Go for the upgrade mate, I'm sure you'll love it, even if it's just for bragging rights. 300+bhp is quite a good brag
