Post by Shaun »

What are you all running ?, the fuel flap says 38 psi ?, is this a tad high , dealer told me far less !!, or are we all running this pressure ?

helpfull post of the day   , no need to be arse chap, and no VW cant have a clue as on the delivery date they put 32psi in and i was told that was OK by the dealer, so i check the book today and it says check the flap, i do and to my surprise i see 38 !!, so i think i will ask the helpful lot on here what they have in theirs and i get you !!.

Anyone got anything constructive to add ?, it will be gratefully received

Hi 182 Blue

:? I have found the same as you. The dealership had inflated tyres to 32 psi all round when I picked up the R and yet the flap says 38psi. Which for the size and weight of the car seems particularly high. I have inflated mine to 38 psi but the handling has definitely deteriorated. BTW I thought the numbers of spelling mistakes in other contributions above spoke volumes about the usefulness of the advice?

I have stuck with the 38 psi for the time being. I imagine there would be a tiny improvement in mpg but uneven tyre wear might become a problem.

Just as an aside - I just got back from Nurburgring where drivers were deflating / inflating tyres before and after track time and did not want to share what pressures they were running -there's no doubt that small adjustments can have a big impact on driving characteristics. I asked a couple of tyre fitters what they would recommend for track use and they didnt really know. It maybe a good question for Steve Sutcliffe who is the journo for Autocar he is currently running an R as a long term test car?

Cheers and good luck

Thx for the helpful and grown up reply :-) , glad it's not just me then, the car really does not feel as good on 38psi !!, I guess we will see what other grown up replies we get on the subject ;-), I'm just after real life scirocco owners experiences and help.

Thx again

Blue

some of us with the 1.4's have found the VW advised pressure to be abit high & cause uneven tyre wear on the fronts but we haven't changed it much below what was is recommended. the vw figure is based on a balance between fuel efficiency and handling

tbh the dealer probably didn't even read the fuel flap as 32-38 as you say is a reasonable difference, they had certainly over inflated mine on delivery by a few psi

S

on a side note: the report button is there for a reason don't carry on & carry on & then someone use it
& Andy we respect your knowledge so please share we'd love to learn, not be ridiculed
