Well, now that VW has an R division its not likely they're going to leave it to just the Golf R and Scirocco R models.
According to Autocar, VW will be producing an R version of the Polo for 2012. It will be powered by a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol/gasoline engine producing around 210 bhp (156 kW). Unlike the Golf R, though, it will not be an all-wheel drive since the Polo's current PQ25 platform does not allow for it.
At the Geneva auto show this past March, VW introduced the upcoming Polo GTI (pictured here) which features a twincharged 1.4 liter TSI engine with 180 PS (132 kW) and 249 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque coupled to VW Group's 7-speed DSG transmission.
The Polo GTI is slated to go on sale this summer in Europe with prices starting at around £18,000/€20,000.

That's impressive power from a small engine. High price for a Polo though.

Yeah quite steep for a polo - looks good and impressive power, but I think they are making the Polo/Golf line even more blurry..... personally would go for a Golf over it though. (Or a Roc, but that would be biasedashley1407 wrote:That's impressive power from a small engine. High price for a Polo though.

Re: Polo R Estimated Arrival 2012
Apparently not.
Dr. Ernst Linder, the technical chief of the Polo GTI, has confirmed Volkswagen will introduce a Jetta R and an Audi S1.
In an interview with Drive.com.au, Linder stated the S1 will feature a 136 kW (182 hp / 185 PS) 1.4-liter twin-charge engine and a seven-speed double-clutch transmission. More importantly, Linder confirmed the S1 will have front-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive. The latter decision will likely anger Audi purists, but it should keep S1 prices reasonable.
Besides talking about the S1, Linder also confirmed Volkswagen was working on a Jetta R. While he didn't provide any details, the Jetta R will likely be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 198 kW (265 hp / 269 PS) and 349 Nm (258 ft-lb) of torque.
Finally, Linder dismissed rumors of a possible Polo R. He stated "From the technical point-of-view, of course we can do something, but from the financial point-of-view it makes not so much sense. It (the Polo R) would be too expensive and we have the S1."

Re: Polo R Estimated Arrival 2012
Read it on top gear that an s1 is being produced and it will be fited with an engine that it will reach 211 hp. Now thats a car. Like the scirocco its unique, nice lines and looks like it drives well
Also it will have the same price tag as a polo gti, hmmm makes me think. polo gti or s1........answear would be an s1 without even thinking about it......

ALL MODS ON HOLD
