R New Road Tax 2010

Post by BrownBear »

I'm not sure if this is pointing out the obvious to most of you (or some) but did anyone realise that the road tax for the R is increasing come 1st April this year. As it stands just now you will pay £215 for it if anyone actually had the car just now or if you get and register the car before 31st March this year. You would need to pay a 'top up fee' of up to £30 more a year when you need to renew it next year or on/after 1st April this year.

The BIG NEWS is that if you don't get the car registered before 1st April 2010 then you will (well VW really because it's a new car) will have to pay the first year of road tax with a price of £425 and then for subsequent years after this it will cost you £235

In my mind it's totally unfair for us the customers (some of us 1st time!) having to be penalised because we're getting UNCONFIRMED buIld weeks.

As one woman nicely pointed out that "it was out of VW's control" at the contact centre, where do VW draw the line with regards to build/delivery dates. It seems shocking to me. What does everyone else think?

Point. I was told by my dealer at the start of this week that he had a customer who order a Golf back in August 09 and it still has an unconfirmed build week of sometime in April this year............... In the words of EMF- UNBELIEVABLE!!!

You're not quite right

See here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ow ... /DG_172916" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cars registered after 1st April pay a higher first year tax, or 'show room tax' rate.

Afetr that they pay the normal band rates

The Rocco R, Band J (186-200) is £425, and then £235 the follwing year

Yep fair point. I read it wrong but pretty poor for the dealers having to pay that on the first year. Frustrating how the R only just makes it into the higher tax CO2 ranking
