Mirror problem

Post by Crossbone »

Ok, my first problem with the Scirocco.
When I turn the mirror switch into HEATING, my mirrors fold. When I turn the switch into FOLD, they either fold back open (if they were closed) or nothing happens. I tested to see if in the FOLD position (when the mirrors are not folded) the mirrors heat up but the ice that was on my right mirror tonight didn't melt after a half an hour drive.
So, do you have any ideas, or do I have to pay the dealer a visit?

Sounds like the mirrrors could be wired up wrong. But the ice on both mirrors should have melted long before half an hour.

Before reading this thread, I didn't even realise that I had heated wing mirrors! I'm feeling like a clot now!

Mine does this, randomly!

Sometimes the mirrors will not point down in reverse, sometimes they wont fold or unfold...

No, my mirrors have the same pattern. They always fold when I put it into heating, then they unfold when I put it into folding. But no heating as far as I can tell. Maybe they do heat up when I put it into heating, but can't really check that because they also fold and I can't drive like that, can I?

I've found similar. What I get is...... if the switch is moved before the ignition is on, then the system doesn't see the switch position change.

maybe a silly question here but are all wing mirrors on all sciroccos heated? I didn't order folding mirrors or winter pack so not sure if they come with that or standard on all cars?

Not just me then, occasionally I get back in the car, start her up, then unfold the mirrors, but nothing happens. work the switch back and forth a couple of times and sometimes they pop out. Or the other thing they do is eventually unfold if you leave them for about a minute, and mine also dont always point down when reversing, or sometimes it doesnt come back up after reversing! glad its not just me! Gonna mention it to the dealer once I have enough faults to be worth puting it in to them to investigate.

Mine work all the time, but they follow the pattern I described. The passanger mirror always drops, and it always rises. They always fold and unfold (but only on the heating position).
So, tonight I had an ideea and tested it. I thought that although the mirrors fold when you put the switch into heating, there must be a position when they heat. So this is what I discovered:

the heating switch now has 2 functions: heating and folding; the folding switch has no function at all. That's the simplest way to put it!
