ROC Dead.....................Then Alive again

Post by gjc-ortho »

Dear All,

Just wondering if anybody has had the following happen?
The car is a 2.0TSI with DSG and it's got less than 4k on it!
This morning after driving for about 80miles, get to work, turn off the ignition, engine stops and then everything goes dead and I mean everything. The biggest issue is that even the windows didn't drop so therefore couldn't open the door!! :grumpy:
Tried putting the key back in and starting to no avail (nothing happened at all), eventually decided to open the bonnet and then all of a sudden everything springs back to life as if by magic. Trip and clock reset to zero and on starting the traction control and the steering warning lights stayed on for about 2 mins and then went off.

Came out of work this evening and it started first time but this is all rather concerning as I had a very similar episode about 2weeks ago; that time it happened after I had got out; locked the car and then all of a sudden the alarm is going off. I try to unlock with the fob - nothing so I managed to undo the door with the key by removing that little clip thing. Put the key in the ignition, alarm stops and again the warning lights and everything reset.

Sound to me as though there maybe something up with the imobilser system but I thinks that just me being optimistic. Anyway, booked in for a visit to the dealer next tuesday but have a funny feeling there will be no error reports.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks, I'm just praying that it's not something untraceable - give me my little K reg Micra anyday - so easy to work on but not "quite" as much fun to drive :)

Well, It's happenend again - got to work this morning and everything went dead - windows didn't drop so had to push the door open against the seal :grumpy:

Had to leave the car with the window outside the seal and unlocked for an hour and a half as really had to be in work. Came back to the car to wait for VW assist (to be told that a "technician" would be a further hour. Whilst sitting in the car waiting, all of a sudden it came back to life - a little reminisent of Christine from the Stephen King novel.

So, currently the motor is running perfectly, just driven the 80miles home with no problems and have managed to lock the car this evening; I've decided that the dealership will be keeping the car until it's sorted!

By the way, just to follow up on the Micra - just went for an MOT and passed first time with no problems what so ever; quality motoring ;)

Has now been with the dealer and the only thing they have come up with is 2 earth leads that aren't "as right as we would have liked".
Picking up tomorrow so will keep you informed.

Cheers all
