Options: Gone but never forgotten; Sumatra, Cruise, Parking Sensors, Flat Tyre Indicator, boot liner, hatchbag, premium sills, SciroccoCentral stickers & hedgehog! Ordered 23rd June 09 Build week 41 Handover 17th Oct 09 Off to his new home July 2016 after nearly 7 years & 88800 miles.
applied some of this on saturday (specifically Rain Away by Mer) [after cleaning all round with window cleaner] & was it good this morning!! apart from on the usual 2 roundabouts that I have to stop at on the way to work & the starting out & last stretch (slow speed) sections of my journey I didn't have to use my windscreen wipers
will be interested to see how well it lasts.
I have to say i'm a relative newbie at applying stuff like this so wasn't sure it would be great straight off but its brilliant! worth trying if you haven't already
Last about 3 months before it gets less effective. To some extent it still continues to work even at 6 months.
Initially can cause a little smearing but that soon goes. Stands upto car washing shampoos.
I also use it also on the wing mirror glass and headlights/fogs/taillights.
Makes removal of frost/snow easier too.

I dont use rain x on the windscreen cos I hate the smearing when the wipers are needed, but ye, its great on side windows, rear windows and mirrors and lights, I use it on the tail lights too, it stops crap sticking to them as well, and as above, snow and ice doesnt stick much. Good stuff. Dont get me wrong, I have used it on the window before, but with the Roc smearing at the best of times, I dont want to add to it!!

Rain-X applied yesterday seems to stopped the bigger smear that was developing caused by waxing the car last week. Yes, there is a slight whisp of a smear but this is outweighed by the clear windscreen and other windows. Clearer back window too today.

Correction, it's not car wax persay but some of the thin film wax VW spray on the car on leaving the factory. Had a bit on the paintwork on the day I took delivery. That came off easily with car wax and a rag. Seems the wipers have spread a bit of the stuff into a few patches on the screen. Glass cleaner or glass polish products wouldn't shift it, or MER, or Goo-Gone, or car wax as per the paint bits previously removed. Had to use Isopropyl Alchol to remove it. Darn stubborn stuff on the glass, like label tacky backing adhesive but it wasn't sticky. The patches weren't label shaped areas either.

Alan, Rain-X won't solve the greasy patch, that needs Isopropyl Alcohol (from a chemist - hic!) with my patches to shift it and even then, it was difficult. Even now, not gone entirely.

We may have a solution that will remove the greasy patches... it's a cleaning solvent that we used to use when doing the paintwork - it should remove the grease without any problems at all.
We could look at sending you a little bit out in a bottle if you struggle to git rid of the patches... let us know
Decided earlier this evening between the downpours to get agressive with the remaining stubborn patches.
A lightly damped small rag with Cellulose Paint Thinners and a bit of gentle rubbing appears to have removed the last remnants. I can't see or feel the patches anymore.
(DO NOT get the rag dripping with thinners or put thinners on the rag while near the car as obviously some could get on the car's paintwork and do damage! Keep the can of thinners away from the car while damping the rag or doing the job.)
Washed the windscreen with plenty of water mixed with a little car shampoo to wash away the residue and thinners. Then rinsed off and re-applied the Rain-X.
Have to see how it goes tomorrow.

Got the car in the garage just now for a bit of a valet, I'm gonna try and clay the window later and see if that removes the greasy patch. If not, I'll try the thinners! And then vinegar the wipers cos there obviously whats depositting the grease there in the first place. Cheers autoperfection for the offer of your magic chemical, will be in touch if its needed!
Out in the Scirocco this morning. It's worked. The smears patches have gone. (Fingers crossed, the thinners followed by soapy water appears to have removed all trace.)

Cool. I never got time to attack mine today, but hopefully tomorrow. Am busy painting my calipers and putting some coppaslip on them just now. Shocked to see that everything in the brakes is bone dry and would prob be siezed by next year. The wheels had already begin to stick to the hubs, why they wont put copper grease on them at the factory I'll never know! I'll hopefully tackle the window tomorrow and see how it goes when I'm using the car next week.

Did all that with copper brake grease on the first day I took delivery. Wheels, hubs, wheel bolts etc. Been there with a stuck wheel in the past. Last thing you want on the road side with a puncture and the car on the precarious boot car jack. It's usual for VW.
