rough paint

Post by alanstead »

Hi, I've had the roc 2 weeks now and after washing her the other day I felt some rough paint on the passenger side rear wing. At first I thought I'd complain to the dealer, then thought it might not be wise because they'd prob end up damaging it worse in thier efforts to fix the prob. Its an area about the size of two hands and it feels like very fine sandpaper, the rest of the car feels like glass as you'd expect. Outside you can not see any defect but when its in the garage and you look up at the paint with the striplights above you can see a slight edge to where the rough paint is. What I'm wondering is whats the best way to remove this roughness, it feels like slight overspray to me, and I wonder will a clay bar do it, or some 3M finnesse or SRP?? Any idea's or advice would be brilliant from any of you OC detailers!! :)

Hey Trix, I tried the SRP, I tried the Finnesse, and not much improvement, but then I tried the claybar for the first time and theres definitely an improvement. Well chuffed. Not perfect yet, but Im happy enough, so I've polished now and waxed and it feels much better. I'll bar it again the next time I wax it. Sure it'll be near perfect then. Just got to hoover her then clean the mats and give the dash and stuff a wipe and she'll be cleaner than new again. And my mates lent me a tub of chemical guys rimwax for the wheels so I'll do them tomorrow.
Cheers for the reply, Alan :)

Hi Ryan, I wondered if it might be that, but I saw the car just after it arrived and there was only film on the roof and bonnet. But they might have taken it off the sides by then, who knows. I've clayed it again because its still in the garage getting a massive clean and wax session, and its perfect now.

Cheers Ryan, the roughness was a little lower than in the photo, but still may have been that. It wouldnt polish off though, but no matter now, the clay bar did the trick and its as smooth as a smooth thing now! Better not say babies bottom in this day and age or I might get singled out as a perv! :)
