Infotainment Possibilities - Car Play ?

Post by Paveway »

Evening everyone.
Wonder if someone with much more knowledge of this than me can help as im going around in circles.
I have a 17 plate R and it has the following Head unit installed:

Device - 5C0035680G
Hardware - H41
Software MU - 0449
Software Version - H29.204.28.1_STD2NAVPQ_EU
Train Version - MSTU_EU_VW_PQ_P0449T

Im not sure if the previous owner had it installed, but when I purchased from the VW Dealer, there was no availability for the Apple Car Play feature; instead there is a message stating I need a serial key from the dealer.
Is this the only way it can be achieved, and also is there any way I can update the software and or firmware for this unit. I have seen some really fancy stuff being displayed on the unit or one similar over on the Transporter forums.

So, in a nutshell

1. update the software / Firmware
2. Car Play would be lovely
3. fancy bespoke display ?

Cheers
Dave

I just paid to have an SD card posted to me with instructions on how to flash the head unit. Apparently it can be done for free, but at least it works and I use Android Auto without problems, save for the fact it only works if I use a ridiculously short USB cable to connect my phone, anything longer just won't work.

I did look into the SD card route, but when I provided my details of the unit / firmware etc and was informed it was not compatible.

There's a guy on Facebook that most people reference when carplay comes up for a Scirocco called Moody Ysm. Maybe look him up for info.
