Hello
So my 62 plate Scriocco which I have had for over 3 years has an issue where sometime the DSG gear box will shift down earlier and shift up later than normal for example: Normal goes from gear 5 to 4 at around 30 mpg but when issue occurs it will be 35+. (in drive not sport)
Obviously this is mildly frustrating but it also makes the fans stay on after engine off and the bluemotion start stop doesn't work during this period. This is most likely costing me more money on fuel due to higher revs and it doesn't use the stop start.
It used to occur very little but its starting to happen more often now. Has had service and MOT recently.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Anyone know why this happens?
Many thanks

Sounds like your dpf is regenerating a lot, get it checked how much ash it contains.

Re: Help! Gearing/Timing?
As above, DPF is regenerating. Has your car had the "emissions update" as that can cause more frequent regenerations.
The fans staying on means that you've turned the car off before the regeneration has been completed. When a regeneration takes place the idle speed is raised and the engine feels a little lumpy. Try and watch out for signs and only switch off once the regeneration has completed, if possible.

Re: Help! Gearing/Timing?
Thank you for the explanations! I will get this checked and hopefully it will solve my problem. I have had the emissions update so that makes sense it is happening more often, I also don't do long journeys so this probably doesn't help. I searched online and they said over 2500 revs at over 40 mph for 10 mins would regenerate it, would you recommend this?

Re: Help! Gearing/Timing?
You only need to do that procedure if the DPF light comes on and you want to force a regen. Just drive your car normally and watch out for the indications that a regen is taking place and let it finish. If you switch off and the fans do continue to run then just give the car a good run on the next journey to allow the regen to take place and finish.
