Tdi rattle
Hi I have a rattle coming from my engine area, it occurs around 1000 revs , engine is lovely and smooth below and above this range , only does it when the engine is warm , dsg nice and smooth, and here’s the strange bit when I open the car door to go investigate the rattle disappear s , but the noise is definitely not coming from the door area . The car has 118000 miles on it and generally runs like a dream , but it came with very little service history or receipts for maintenance, so obviously I am worried about cam belts water pumps etc . Thanks in advance for any help .

OK, open the bonnet, use the strut to hold the bonnet up, as normal. Run the engine - if the rattle is gone, it might be the bonnet strut rattling against the top of the engine bay. Put a piece of foam or similar under the strut when you go to put th bonnet down. This foam would absorb the movement and should cure your rattle.
But if this doesn't work, try a search of the whole forum.
