Oil Inspection/Change

Post by SciroccoCW »

My MFD is telling me to check/change my oil.. so I checked the dipstick and the oil level is at max. How do I stop it from telling me to check/change my oil every time I turn the ignition on? Does it need to be changed even if the level hasn't gone down? When I go into the MFD menu and select service it just tells me when the oil needs to be inspected and when it needs to be changed.

Car was serviced in August.

Who serviced your car? Sounds like the service interval wasn’t reset.

Bought the car from an employee at a Toyota garage, so it was serviced there. But it hasn't come up saying anything about oil inspection until the last 4 weeks.

As said, it sounds as if the service counter wasn't reset when it was serviced.

I don't know if it's the same on the facelift but on mine within the vehicle status menu you get the mileage and time to the next service displayed. It also gives you the option to reset but if you do it reverts to Time and Distance regime. If the car is on longlife (variable) regime and you want to keep it on that regime you need vcdsto reset it.

I suspect if you look back at the service history the previous service was either done roughly 10k miles ago or Nov 2016 if it's T&D regime or Nov 2015 or 19k miles ago if it's longlife regime.

Obviously, if you reset now it will be out of sync with the service history.

By any chance is the car approaching it's 3rd birthday?

It could be that the facelift is like the Audi system and it advises when an Inspection Service is due which on the Rocco is at 3 years, irrespective of mileage and also involves a brake fluid change. First brake fluid change is at 3 years and every 2 years thereafter.

Perhaps because it was Toyota that serviced it they didn’t reset the counter. I didn’t see anything in the mfd that said vehicle status. I’m not sure what longlife regime is.

It’s a MY2014 vehicle, so over 3 years now

This explains the service regimes.

I thought based on a previous thread it was a MY2015 (2014 registered)

Sorry your right, I remembered wrong. I’ll check the papers to see if the oil was changed last service. I’ll ask if they were able to reset the counter when they serviced it too. I’ll also check with VW if it has a 3 year inspection service.
