Headlight Removal - Bumper off?

Post by Kpowell911 »

Just a quick one, do you need to remove the front bumper to change a front headlight? Ive had a mishap, and the worst of the damage is the headlight so ive got a brand new one. The bumper is scuffed but that can wait till after
Xmas if I can change the head light without taking the bumper off.

Thanks

Last year I had to replace a bulb in the headlamp unit, but dropped a tool down inside the engine compartment. The only way to retrieve it was to remove the headlight unit. With the able assistance of my 15 year old daughter, we loosened the bolts holding it to the rest of the car and shimmied it gently out, collected the dropped tool and replaced all the fastenings.

No need to remove the bumper - took about half an hour of tentative poking about before we took the plunge !

Also, we checked the alignment of the light before and after to make sure that we don't dazzle oncoming traffic. We must have done a good job as the car passed the MoT cleanly a couple of months later.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the brand new light and saw there was no bolts covered by the bumper ans have it a shot. Job done in about half hour. Is argue it was easier than changing a bulb! Ha
