Hello,
I'm going to pickup a second used Scirocco in a bit and I was wondering what are the things that are crucial and should definitely be checked before paying for it and making it mine?
I've never owned a turbo charged car (my previous car was a 'beat up' 1996 ford escort).
Obviously I will check for standard things like no rust, no damage etc, but what other things should I consider, I'm not a car specialist either way.
The car I'm looking to get is a 2009-2010 1.4 TSI 160hp with between 140 000 - 160 000 km's (I found two very similar for 8k and 8.5k the last one has a tinted windows and a custom exhaust).
Thanks.
What are some things I should lookout for on a second used.

I wouldn't buy a second hand 2009-10 160TSi model unless VW had already replaced the engine. Many of the ones manufactured at that time have had probs with pistons cracking. The replacement engines are apparently stronger (different piston supplier).
Otherwise it's probably a problem waiting to happen. You may be lucky, but I wouldn't risk it.
You could in theory try and read the ECU for any fault codes indicating a misfire, which seems to be what causes the damage - but depending on how it has been driven in the past that may or may not be apparent?
Blower knows quite a bit about this issue, I've noticed [WINKING FACE]

How much does a cracked piston costs in repair? Also does this problem comes with the diesel version?

Does the Scirocco 2.0 TSI R-line (2009-157k km) has any crucial/known problems? It has around 280hp or atleast that what the description says (guess its modded?).
