Clunky noise when i steer the wheel on reverse.1.4 TSI 160

Post by Geo1989 »

Hi everyone ! New on the forums. I bought a few days ago a second hand 2010 1.4 Scirroco aumatic transmition.

THe car is in excellent condition(looked at least). The person who i bought had changed gearbox(it has only 120KMs)put the new DSG 7 speed and i know him pretty good he wouldnt mess me up.

That being said the car makes a very clunky noise at reverse when i try to park and steer the wheel( not when i change speed). When i try to park the car while simultaneously using the break it makes an annoying clunky noise.
Important to note that this noise is straight related to my brake(as i release it) but it doesnt sound like the disc plates.

From the few things i've read in here it might be related to high temperature?( IMPORTANT note. the car was in garage for a good 10-12 months before my friend did 3-4 KMs and then gave it to me.

All help is appreciated, thx!

Could be a number of things;
- Brake pads moving with the caliper due to worn or missing anti-rattle spring.
- Broken spring / top strut mount
- Worn ball joint

Thanks for the reply Mr CUprabob, tried to translate some of the possible issues u noted out in Greek so i can i understand what u mean, i highly doubt its Broken spring/top strut mount.

I dont think so its warn ball join because i read it would somehow affect me during regular driving aswell and it doesnt.

This sounds interesting though ''Brake pads moving with the caliper due to worn or missing anti-rattle spring''.

Edit. i did try to park the car cold from the garage and i didnt hear any noise.

Thanks for the reply
