Fix RNS510 or buy 3rd party radio?

Post by maahonen »

I have a 2009 2.0 TSi that has the RNS510 w/rear parking sensor, Dynaudio speakers, and an older version Bluetooth box (that doesn't support A2DP or calls with newer phones) under seat. The maps on the nav are probably from 2009, though I don't use the nav much at all.

My RNS510 stopped working one day. Local VW dealership tried a few beginner tricks but said that they can't fix it. They're not very savvy though so I figured this discussion board has better ideas. As far as I know, I have two options - and I'd like advise on which one to take.

A) Fix RNS510 by sending it to a company that claims they can fix the head unit for 100€ - for instance this one: https://shop.bba-reman.com/shop/parts/m ... fd-repair/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

B) Buy a new head unit off ebay, such as this one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/8-AUTORADIO-fur- ... SwLVZVrUlI" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't have VAGCOM nor do I want to play around with car settings - I just want to plug the new head unit / Bluetooth box (if needed), configure my phone, and go. I don't have much patience for tinkering. Also awful user interfaces are a pet peeve.

Any advice is very much appreciated.
