2016 Scirocco R 2.0 tsi engine revving by itself.. any ideas

Post by Harsim01 »

Hi there just wanted to get some advice and to see if other Sciroccos have done the same. Yesterday after a little spirited drive whilst parked up the engine began revving it self between 1000rpm and 2000rpm sometimes up to 2500rpm. And then sometimes it stays at idle whilst still shaking. It's fine whilst driving and the power is still there so no loss of power or boost etc.. But whilst at traffic lights or just in neutral it will rev itself. I am taking to the dealership tomorrow morning but just wanted to see if any others have had same problem and what was done to fix? Thanks

Could be a vaccum leak. Easy to diagnose, check with VCDS or a boost gauge.
If you apply a slight amount of throttle does it stop?

Hi yeah I think it's a vaccum leak too have booked in with vw for next wednesday haven't driven it since Monday ... its killing me.
Yeah when you apply the throttle it stops with no loss of power drives normal. Do you think vw will cover this under the warranty? I've only got 6k on the clock so it's till basically brand new.

It does sound like a vacuum leak.

I'm sure they will...

It's a 2016 car so still within manufacturer's warranty so I would expect it to be coveted under warranty.
