Need advice on new navigation unit and reverse camera

Post by hvdm-qatar »

Hi, I recently replaced the stock radio/entertainment system (5K0 035 190 A) with a new RNS510 P navigation system (1T0 035 680 P) but can't get the reverse camera to display, only the reverse sensors are displayed. The camera does work with the replaced unit.
At the time of purchase; the reseller of the navigation unit has first enquired about the car's vin number to ensure that I get a compatible unit before it was shipped to me. When enquired with them about not being able to get the rear view camera operational, they advised me to take the car to the VW service center, as it requires reconfiguration, which apparently only they could do. The service center tells me can't do as it is the wrong radio.

Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Probably the camera is not 'activated' in the radio. You need someone with vcds to activate it.

Agree with Ibifaho. Find someone local with VCDS and follow the instructions here http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 12&t=14682" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; half way down page 1. You may need a few more posts before you can read the attached as I think Mod pages are locked to new members. Once you have (fairly few) more posts there's also a VCDS folder where you can ask for assistance from people in your area. Although on second glance at your user name I'm guessing this may not be as easy as for other more local users. Get posting.

Thanks for the prompt response gents, it is much appreciated. Would the same procedure apply to the stock reverse camera as for the retrofit kit?
As you rightly mentioned, the challenge is to find someone in Qatar that has VCDS.

Not sure I understand the question. The cameras fitted by myself and UKLee in the attached link were supplied by the people who supply VW, http://www.carsystems.pl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; so effectively they were OEM quality and OEM wiring but fitted to a car not supplied with a camera or the wiring loom for it. So sort of stock but also sort of retrofit.

Thanks for the link, somehow it never featured in any of my searches, will bookmark it.
My car came with a factory installed camera but without navigation. I bought the RNS510 navigation system from http://volkswagen-navigationsystem.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; installed it but failed to get the camera to display.
Seeing the challenge to find someone in Qatar that has VCDS, I'm now considering buying the VCDS® with HEX-NET® Enthusiast https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchn_10/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Any thoughts on that?

I bought hex-usb-can which was the previous generation wired version. But if I was buying today I'd buy hex-net. There's loads of stuff you can do with it so well worth it I thought. List of the normal stuff people do is here http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 36&t=14999" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
