Passenger Dipped Beam Not Working - No Warning Lights!

Post by jimmyscirocco1 »

Hi guys!

I have had my Rocco for just over a year now and have had no issues with the car at all. After buying an HID kit online, I tried installing it and was successful with the drivers side but the passenger side would not work. Tried a different bulb holder for the kit and a different ballast and it still did not work (I think it's either the bulb or the issue below)

Now, I went to put the OEM bulb holder in with a normal H7 bulb and it would not work at all! No warning light, but my main beam, fog and DRL are all working; all but that one dipped. Called VW and they said it doesn't 'sound' like it's a wiring fault because the rest of the lights on that side are completely fine and suggested I buy a new bulb holder and try that. I tried 3 different bulbs and I also tried the bulb hold that is usually in the other headlamp unit and still no luck! I am left thinking what else could it be? May have to buy a brand new bulb holder from VW to cross that off the list.

Very reluctant to give the car to VW and pay £££ for them to sort it temporarily and not the issue itself and have to drag the car in for another bunch of £££ to sort it properly.

Anyone had any similar issues or any advice/tips for me to try out?

Thank guys.

The headlights don't have fuses but the module does shut down if it detects a fault, like too much current drawn. The circuit won't work until the module has been reset by VCDS. You could be lucky and it may reset if you disconnect the battery for a few mins.

There have been a few threads on forum over the years where similar has happened when the owner has fitted an after market HID kit. In one of the cases it blew the module and was a relatively expensive fix.

Thanks for the reply.

I am going to try to disconnect my battery later tonight and see whether that fixes the issue.
If that doesn't, can I purchase a cable and download software to reset the module? If so, do you knwo which parts I could buy and whether a simple OBD 2 cable would work?

Hoping the module hasn't blown! Will update on whether the first option fixes it or not.

You are a life saver mate! Simply disconnected the battery, left it for 5 minutes, popped it back on and the dipped started working like a charm!

Cheers for the help!
