Hi guys,
I was driving back from work the other day and was stuck in traffic. Suddenly the engine started sputtering a bit and just died. I restarted and the same happened instantly. Could not remember if any lights were flashing at that time, but afterwards the dashboard and all electrics were working when I just put the key in.
Fearing it might be the timing chain tensioner, I didn’t restart the engine and the mechanic towed the car away. That night, they couldn’t start the engine again. The next morning, they boosted the battery and the car worked as normal. Ran a diagnostic and the only fault code was P068A/001674 which suggested either a faulty power supply relay or weak battery. I’ve driven the car twice since then with no issues yet, but there is clearly something wrong and I don’t want to randomly breakdown in the road again.
I thought it could have been the battery, but it started fine leaving work and only died whilst the engine was on. Also if the power supply relay had failed, surely the car wouldn’t start after a boost the next morning? Does anyone know of a potential cause? I’m hesitant to go to VW as it will probably cost me an arm and a leg just to get to the stage where I am now.
Cheers,
Tony
