Hi all,
Wanted to get your help/advice on next steps as the bonnet release on my Scirocco no longer works.
Over the weekend I went to top up the screenwash and clear out some of the loose leaves that had gathered under the wipers. So I pulled on the bonnet release lever (admittedly, the lever on my Scirocco has always been quite stiff - but I believe this is quite common) and after a few seconds of pulling the lever had lost all tension and the bonnet hadn't opened. Ever since the lever has just been hanging there in place without any tension/resistance when pulling on it.
Reading a couple of other threads, a broken release cable seems like a possible cause but at the time I didn't hear anything noticeable (like a cable snapping). So it seems like I need to get at the release mechanism/cable by taking out the wheel arch liner.
Any guidance you could offer on how to remove the wheel arch liner would be appreciated (along with any other advice on how to troubleshoot this issue).
Thanks!

Re: Bonnet release - help needed
It's probably the cable running from the release to the handle

I had the opposite problem the bonnet wouldn't lock down. Copious amounts of wd40 may help if you can get it in the cable lining

Remove the wheel arch liner on the drivers side
Use a really long flexible grabby stick. You can just about reach the bonnet latch itself and you will be able to grab onto the cable and pull it.
It is not easy, and it is not fun. But it is absolutely possible.
When you have the bonnet open, repair the cable, remove the bonnet latch assembly, clean with wire brush, grease well and reassemble.
