Warning Light Issue

Post by R_G929 »

I originally had 17" alloys on my scirocco I have now fitted 18" and for some reason my ESC, ABS & Tyre pressure lights come on...? My VW alloys didn't have the tyre pressure valves so I've been told. What could the issue be?

The TPMS doesn't use pressure sensors in the valve, it uses the wheel speed sensors. You should have reset the TPMS when you changed over the alloys but if that was the issue only one light would be on. Press and hold the reset button for approx 2 secs until you hear a chime.

My guess is one of the wheel speed sensors has been disturbed while changing over the wheels.

Hi there, I tried to reset it but the light just goes off for literally half a second and refuses to reset and no chime noise heard yet I'm holding it down for over 2 secs!! Vagcom said check rear left sensor (intermittent), I removed it cleaned it & fitted it. Then checked it to see if it measures speed and it's all good reading the same speeds as the other 3 sensors! Yet the lights still coming back ugh!! No idea what's causing it?

Would the tyre size bring the warning light on if they weren't the correct size ? As in if you were running 235/45/17 and went 235/45/18 ?

Possibly, on 18s you should be running 235/40R18. It's going to change the rolling circumference of the wheels.

It wouldn't matter what size wheels and tyres were fitted, the system should be able to be reset to suit what's fitted. Rear left sensor sounds like it's causing an issue so I'd be looking there before mucking about with tyre sizes. Or swap the old wheels back on again to verify the fault is the car, not the wheels.

That's correct it has to re-adapt on the new tyre measurements and carachteristics, just reset.

I've tried to reset it, it refuses to reset itself - not sure if this is due to the ABS fault as the left rear sensor isn't happy...? I've ordered a new sensor so I'll replace it when it comes, maybe that will fix the issue?

Yes, it'll be related to the ABS fault.

No...

Have you double checked that tbe tyre size on the offending corner is the same as all the other 3 corners.

Can you make a new scan with vcds? Does it give the same fault code? Maybe you have to reset the fault code directly in the abs controller, this is also the case with engine fault codes.

Might be the sender ring on the hub, or damaged wiring maybe.
