Hi new to this forum
I drive a TDI DSG 2.0 scirocco, 2009 plate (37k on clock)
Had car serviced end of Feb, a week later fault code 09754 appeared relaying to a second water pump which mechanic who serviced said wasn't critical but get sorted when able to. On Tuesday this week, smoke bellowing out, engine management light came on and coolant red light to stop. Levels had run really low. Been on diagnostic and water pump fault remains, all other codes cleared. Since leaving garage - they are not confident to replace pump - engine management back on and still smoking! Any ideas? I've booked into a local VW specialist on Monday but worried this is going to cost me a lot of money all went wrong as soon as I had it serviced ....
The secondary water pump is an electric pump and runs after the engine is switched off to prevent heatsoak.
Main cooling is still provided by the mechanical water pump driven by the cambelt so the failure of the secondary one should not cause overheating.
If it had been losing coolant over time the level sensor would have alerted you before it got to the stage of overheating so it sounds like an immediate catastrophic failure causing coolant loss. Possibly the mechanical water pump has failed although that would normally replaced with the cambelt change at 4 to 5 years. Another cause could be the thermostat sticking closed.
The garage should have done a pressure test on the coolant system to check for leaks.
Personally, I would not use the car but if you do keep a cloae eye on the temp gauge and coolant levels as you don't want to warp the heat or damage the turbo.
Thank you for your reply
That's the odd thing as temp gauge has never gone above half way. I've not really driven it since Tuesday apart from local garage for diagnostics and will have to drive Monday to VW place. Praying it's nothing too serious or costly as being female, I'm starting to lose faith and really thought this was my forever car! So miss my ford puma lol
