Long story short, just picked up my new Rocco yesterday, but it only came with 1 key, so I rang VW to see how much a replacement would be, luckily I was stood up at the time as if I was sat down I would have fallen off my chair......... £220
So, my question, is there a cheaper way than using VW, I can pick up a key off of eBay for about £15 with circuit board and chip, it's just the cutting and coding, can this be done by anyone other than VW and if so any recomendations, cheers
Buy key insurance for £12-15 with ur car insurance covers up to 1500 if u lose one covers breakdown, new keys etc etc. Or there is a guy on the Facebook group who cuts and codes Bentley style keys £120
I don't think it works like that, there's a key tag they sent u. Attach to keys then any keys that are lost can be claimed for including reprogramming of the cars immobiliser / door locks for house keys etc. Up to about 1500 no policy excess. Mine cost £12 - it's an add on most insurance companies offer u. I've lost my keys once and it cost a bomb to get car keys reprogrammed and cut, immobiliser changed in the car (in case someone wanted to take my car who got the keys) and door locks etc cost me a fair whack.
Options: Pan roof, sat nav, Bluetooth, heated leather, park distance control, tpms, big speedo, cornering lights, sil covers, chrome exhaust tips, white lower front grille, gold coloured calipers,
If you live anywhere near Willenhall near Wolverhampton then go to a company called 'davenport burgess'. I've had keys cut and programmed from there (not vw but other makes) for around £20.
Most scirocco's are all the same but some are different...
Right, little update, i bought a key off of eBay (described as genuine VW), just been and had the key cut at a local locksmiths, but they were unable to code this particular VW key, so i have rung around the local VW Specialists, and they seem unable to code this key either
Has anyone been able to get a replacement Scirocco key coded without paying VW £220 for it
I bought my car from vw, but a key was missing. They sent me a second key which needed to be coded to the car. My local vw dealer coded it for £56 inc vat and the dealer I bought the car from refunded the cost.
You should be able to get it done at a dealers for roughly the same price, as you said its a genuine key it shouldn't be a problem.
A friend runs a vw specialist garage and he told me to code the keys you have pay for a yearly licence from vw. It's not cheap I believe so independent garages don't bother as its not cost effective. I believe there is a back door way using vcds but it doesn't always work apparently.
