Lubrication/Grease Areas turning White
I'm not sure exactly what it is but where there is a hinge or a locking mechanism there seems to be evidence of a white substance building up around the area. First thing I'm starting to think is that the lubrication or the grease is starting to fail. There doesn't seem to be any flaking or drying up but it just never used to be there before and the other thing that I am wondering is how on earth has this started to happen. Has anyone else experienced this. I'll take some pictures in the daylight so you have something visible to comment on.

If you have had your car recently serviced by VW - then it was probably them spraying white lube spray on all the hinges and locks.
VW dealerships have always used this white lube spray for hinges & locks.

Thanks for the info. I might just ask them about that tomorrow. Taking the car in.
