RAC fix Suspensions on Call?

Post by TriGGER »

Last night I heard a loud bang outside the house. I was confused as to what it was as I thought someone might be causing trouble I look around the house to see what it was and found nothing to be concerned about.

This morning I get up and want to go down the road to the shop when I heard all this weird rattling like my exhaust had fallen off or something. I pulled over checked under the car there was nothing that looked unusual. Got back in started to pull of again I heard it, checked the bottom of the car and found nothing. When I parked up the 2nd time I noticed the rear end didn't have the same clearance to the wheel when compared to the front and thats where I think something has worn off and the suspension has failed. That's my first assumption.

Now that the garages are all shut, I was wondering if I called the RAC guy down to have a look at it would they be able to repair a suspension on the spot?

I would doubt it. They will just take it to the garage.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Especially if there is a bolt that has sheared off then I don't expect them to carry all the different types.

Spring failure is quite common on VAG cars, so that would be my guess. Thankfully it's a very easy job on the rear:-)

Unfortunately RAC can barely change a car battery - that's about as advanced as they get. :|

Wow I just got a quote for £397 from VW. Waiting for other places to ring me back. The price includes parts and labour for both sides. :fall:

Is that quote just to replace both rear springs?

Yep, I got a different quote just now for about £290. I'm happier with that.
