Obviously it is, what I mean is in terms of the car computer and radio will I need any codes or the like from VW as I will not pay their extortionate rate to change the battery!
On cold starts its taking a bit longer to crank the engine, its not always but today it took a good 1.5s (Seems ages!) to start up. Car is 6yrs old this year and no idea if ever been replaced so will do it prophylactically now I think rather than get stranded anywhere then have to buy a crappy expensive one from RAC etc.
What one do I need for an R and recommended brands?
Cheers:)

Re: Battery user replaceable?
Yes, it's easily replaceable.
As long as the headunit is the one it left the factory with it won't need a code. If it's retro-fitted then yes the code will be needed.
After replacing the battery, the ESP light and the steering light will be on until the car is driven and the steering angle sensor re-calibrates.
Personally I would go for a Bosch S3, S4 or S5. Price wise check Costco, Eurocarparts and Carpartsforless. The last 2 are the same company but prices vary.

Re: Battery user replaceable?
I killed my battery changing some bulbs and had the issue with the warning lights. Like you say, disappeared after short drive.

Re: Battery user replaceable?
Should be able to check the date on the battery (has to be on there somewhere), that'll tell you whether it's the original or not
Mine went a couple months ago suddenly on my 2009, was the original battery, wouldn't take a charge at all even when plugged into a charger.

Weird thing, I never have to put my RNS code in after a battery disconnect, and it's a retrofit.Cuprabob wrote:Yes, it's easily replaceable.

I wonder if the car recognises it after a while; what do you reckon?
Re: Battery user replaceable?
Once the code's been put in the car will remember the head unit. Even retrofits.
