Low rpm info

Post by Chrisis »

Hello guys, wish to all of u a happy new year :) I would like some info from anyone who knows something about my concerns. So lets suppose we have two tsi twincharged cars, with same upgrades and with a remap. What is this that give u more "power" at low rpm ? I mean, what gives to car A more power at low rpm than car B ? Is it the boost pressure ? Is it the throttle response ? Im asking all these because i had a custom remap to my car, but i didnt see some actual improvement at low rpm !! The "programmer" told me that the only way to see more improvement at low rpm is to change the throttle response (to open 100% and not 2/3) !! what u guys think ? Any suggestions ?

What do you define as 'low rpm'? - ie. what range?

Between 1000 and 2500 nearly all the power comes from the supercharger, between 2500 and 3500 its a mix of the supercharger and turbo charger, after that its all turbo.

So to get more power at the very low end (1000 to 2500) you need to get the supercharger working harder - but it pretty much runs flat out on the standard map...a remap can tweak a bit more out of it, and yes improving throttle response will give you the impression of more power as it will respond quicker and hence there is less delay to get the revs to climb up to the range where the turbo starts kicking in.

If your not seeing much of an improvement in the 3000-4000rpm range than that's down to boost pressure from the turbo - which could be the map, most map's on this engine limit the boost pressure in this range as it can lead to issues with misfires due to hardware limitations.....i'm currently working on a problem with mine where it's struggling to push above 1.4 bar, intermittently, and i'm getting misfires (which i believe are false due to turbo pressure fluctuations) when it does this - i believe its a either a boost leak or a problem with the wastegate actuator.
I say a 'problem' - just pushing high boost pressures on these engines will exacerbate any underlying issues, which can just come with age on the car (small boost leaks, wastegate actuator spring not as strong as new etc).
Due to this tuners tend to keep boost pressures under 1.4 bar...although APR stage one will push 1.6 bar at lowish rpms, which is the map i have and the one thats giving me issues.

Thanks for your time mate. My mistake, with low rpm i mean between 1000-3500, so mostly supercharger, but as u said it runs flat out with standard map, so the only 2 tweaks i can do maybe is firstly make the supercharger works harder after 2500 until 3500 (supercharger starts to drop after 2500 i guess because of turbo wake up), and secondly adjust the throttle response, open it earlier i guess..right ? After 3500 i think it gives me enough power, even if i had also some misfires sometimes (time to change spark plugs and ignition coils). BUT i should make some logs for actual and requested boost pressure (bar etc), throttle angle etc, to have better understanding of whats going on, and then i should go to the "programmer" to fix it. Thanks for your time mate
