oil consumption??

Post by Green Machine »

Hello guys, ive got a 2010 Scirocco 1.4 tsi single charged, and it seems to be using a lot of oil. I filled it up last saturday after i noticed that it was low and then did a 150 mile trip and a few 50 mile trips, and its gone down again? what would people suggest to do? the car has full volkswagen service history, so should i go back to them and ask if they can do anything?
Cheers in advance for any help, Josh

Very common on this engine. VW quote 1 litre per 1,000km as normal!
VW Scirocco GT 170 in shadow blue metallic with vienna leather, cruise control, parking radar, nav, bluetooth and dynaudio sound system. Remapped and shortshift fitted.

I would take it back and ask them to do an oil consumption test. It is true that some of these engines do eat oil, but it shouldn't be using that much oil in just a few hundred miles.

Agreed, that oil consumption is excessive. From memory the manual states up to 1 litre per 2000KM (1,250 miles), which is still crazily high. The twin charge engine does use more oil but not excessively.

I have the twin charged and doesn't use any oil that is noticeable - that's a lot of oil to go through.

Seems a bit excessive. Mine (160TSI) is on 50k miles and does not use any oil between changes (changed with filter every 5000miles with 5w30). Had the car from new and run in gently for the first 3000miles. Still think running in is important even though manufacturers say a much less distance and we all know how much we can believe manufacturers these days!!!
