They are very cheap. To the point where I know I wouldn't trust them. Brakes are something I never skimp on, yes they have to meet certain standards but I'd rather have something that far surpasses it than something that just about reaches the minimum requirements. Also it's in an emergency that you'll be glad you spent the extra £20 or so as you'll get stopped a metre or so sooner.

I know my mechanic friend will only supply and fit Feredo or Mintex and they're not exactly expensive pads or disks but are very good quality.

I've the same attitude towards tyres. Don't get why anybody would fit budgets. It's a false economy in the long run.

Can't agree more!

I went for EBC when I did my discs and pads a couple of months ago. I think I paid around £350 for both front and rear (standard sizes- not BBK)

Might have to give Feredo/Mintex a try next!

EBC were awful on my Type R. Mintex seem to always squeel.

Hmm any other ideas?

I do kinda agree with the sentiment. Tyres for exampls. Ive just spent £650 on Michelin Pilot Super Sports all round. But ive been very underwelmed with performance stuff like EBC/Mintex/Brembo in the past so wondered if some OEM patterns would be suffice. I had the complete Red Stuff package on my Type R and it was awful. Far worse than stock.

Are those in my links the correct sizes howver? I did find this:

I think you'll find you've bought Michelin Pilot Super Sports and not Pirelli.

Try your local TPS for OEM discs and pads. Sometimes they are on offer and turn out to be the best value.

Also, I'm guessing I have 288mm front Discs as opposed to 312mm? Both come up when I select my car on various sites. Mines the 140 Bluemotion.

Got a link?

Also found these:

I know I didnt like EBC, but that was their Red/Yellow stuff so called "Performance" ones? these maybe closer to OEM?

Here you go...

They have 10%off as well at min... Think I paid just over £100 for set of front drilled and grooved with mintex pads

The EBC seems to be doing okay for me so far but I only use it for daily commute and a bit of fun in the weekends in the peaks.

The only disc types available on mtec are drilled and grooved, dimpled and grooved, drilled only, grooved only and and c hook. If you want plain disc why not just go OEM? Or ECP? Instead of buying from some unknown on ebay? :faint:

Agree with Tommy there. I'd personally avoid eBay ones like that. I used EBC on an old pug and they did the job... Don't Brembo do reasonably priced solid discs?

I'm struggling to find OEMs?

I might either order those EBC normal ones, or just ask a garage to do it all lol

I did my rear discs and pads myself last month. Bought Bosch discs and pads from Euro car parts and with a 10% promo code they cost me £68........bargain, perform well and are probably what the genuine VW ones are anyway, if not there probably just as good being Bosch.

Unless you want uprated ones for a reason (like mapped car or track) then I wouldn't waste your money.

VW tried to charge me £129 just to change the rear pads!.......... £68 quid for Bosch pads and discs, fit myself (easy) and I did a much better job because I spent time cleaning up callipers, carrier brackets and contact faces etc, which VW probably don't bother making much effort doing.
