Reccomended Oil for a 2010 2.0 TSI?

Post by House »

Can anyone reccomended a good oil for me to use in my 2.0 TSI?

Just need some to keep spare for topping up. Unfortunately I don't know what was put in in the last service as I've only just bought it.

Cheers

Millers nano oil. Empty what you've got and just use that.

The oil VW use is Quantum Longlife 5w30.

That stuff is made by Castrol, and it is said that Castrol Edge 5W30 is the same stuff - I have used both of them over the years.

Any 5w30 that meets VW504.00 / VW507.00 will do the job. Brand is personal preference.

If you've got a trade card for Halfords there VW specific oil is very good value

Yes I do, if you just want a 1 litre top up, try TPS. I can't remember how much I paid. My car hardly uses any oil and my vw indie normally tops it up for nothing when I'm in there.

You shouldn't mix oils. Top up with what's in it or drain and refill it.

I wouldn't use a heavier weight oil in a TSI - apart from it reducing your mpg, it will also take longer for oil pressure to build on a cold start = not a good situation for the oil pressure operated chain tensioner. If you want to use a heavier weight you need to be looking at 0W40 not 5W40 - that will at least alleviate cold start pressure build up, but your mpg will still be reduced overall.

My stealers use Castrol Edge 5w30 in my TSi which is why I keep a spare couple of litres of.... Castrol Edge 5w30.
