Is 106,000 miles too much for a 09 roc
Sorry I'm in the process of buying a roc but am undecided about whether the mileage on one that I like is just too high, I know that it averages out at about 20,000 miles a year but is that too high? Any help would be appreciated [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Mileage is quite high, what model car is it? Diesel/petrol? Why miles so high (ex company car maybe majority motorway miles) has car got lots of service history and parts replacement at the right miles (cambelt/clutch/brakes etc etc) I'd be checking why miles so high and service history and what work has been done.

Me personally I wouldn't touch it. I wouldnt buy a car with that many miles on it.
But saying that if it's a diesel they seem to last forever and 100k is just the start of what they can do.

Got to say, I'm with WD on this - may be okay but I wouldn't even look at it. Full stop.

Focus on condition and history. Yes, the mileage is above average but it's probably spent most of it's life cruising on the motorway. I would much prefer a car that has been used everyday and driven rather than an ultra low mileage example that's been used for short journeys, not getting up to temperature or stop start city driving. Too many people worry about mileage too much.

Yeah I'm gonna have to have a good look at the condition of the car a check back through the history. It's a 2.0 diesel, so maybe if it was in good condition it wouldn't be such a major deal, as I don't do too much long distance driving anyway.

So you guys think that once it's in good condition and has a good history behind it, and the fact it's a diesel, it shouldn't be such a deterrent?

Re: Is 106,000 miles too much for a 09 roc
I think it's a case of everything on its own merits mate, I'd look at how much lower miles cars are selling for, use the high miles as a tool to negotiate a better price as there won't be many people jumping at a 106k miles car but if the miles are motorway due to being ex company or rep car or something legit, and has been services and had money spent on it then it's worth looking at - look at the receipts, mots , when we're clutch and brakes last done, timing chains/tensioner - I don't have a diesel but most Diesel engines run forever if u look after them, they look after u. So if the price is right u will really have to do your homework with the seller - checks reasons why miles so high and all receipts and service intervals etc, also worth searching the forum and googling common issues with the engine of that year in case there are any. I'd say it's worth looking into if ur going to save a decent amount of money by going high miles, and everything checks out. If ur not saving much compared to a car with half the miles then there's not much point in it. Good luck let us know how u get on?

One thing to note is that the cambelt should have been changed at 4 years old as it was registered before Sept 2009.

If diesel it's not an issue as long as serviced correctly. Buy on condition ... I'd be more worried buying a diesel that's done less than 12k-15k per year as they really don't like short journeys.

Thanks lads, it's priced at 9500 euro as a result of the higher mileage, plus 1700 for vrt, so once the condition and service history checks out, it could be a good saving

Agreed as a general point. Still wouldn't want touch a six year old car with that sort of mileage on it for that sort budget - would prefer to keep savings or else look for another model.Cuprabob wrote:Focus on condition and history. I would try to avoid but that may just be the stigma of everyone running from high mileage cars.
Does the price reflex mileage?

Yeah the price was lowered a small but due to higher than average mileage?

Re: Is 106,000 miles too much for a 09 roc
Just an aside ... My Scirocco was just over £10k with 90k on the clock (one owner) ... Yet equivalent 60-70k miler was £13-£14k ...
20k less miles was not worth paying an extra £3-£4K ...
As long as it's priced right and importantly is the right condition it's a no brainer.

Make sure u check the service receipts and mots an any work done, if that all checks out I would still try and haggle some off the price, they're unlikely to be flooded with interest due to the miles and will likely take less than advertised. I'd always try my luck.

If you're going in the evening take a very strong light to get a proper look, not a phone torch.
