Ignition barrel failure warranty?

Post by daves2369 »

Hi Guys,

Parked up in Tesco yesterday and went to release my keys from the ignition and the windows were going mental up and down really quickly for a good 30 seconds. They then stopped and I couldn't put the key in the ignition it was like something was blocking it looking in. I could not lock the car either with the central locking.

I realized you usually get a loud clunk when releasing the key, this didn't happen so i'm guessing it half thought the key was still in the ignition.

Called VW breakdown as I bought the car from VW 8 or so months ago and they got the AA out who after 15 minutes of wiggling a screwdriver and the key with some "lube" managed to finally get the key back in but now its stiff as anything and it could break again.

So really is this sort of thing covered under warranty? any thoughts?

Cheers

Ignition barrel failure warranty?

had this on my old gt, warranty covered it. just make sure they order the right part as they can't put the old one back in once removed. my old car was marooned while they waited as they got the wrong one...

It's a common problem on the earlier cars and should be covered under warranty.

I often wonder if having a large bunch of keys hanging off it can put unnecessary wear on the barrel

Cheers for the info guys :) Fingers crossed!

There seems to be a lot of common problems with the earlier sciroccos unfortuantly so far iv'e had:

timing tensioner and chain replaced
fuel pump replaced
intake manifold replace

All under warrenty, now the ignition barrel and also my clutch is making a god awful sqeal and the other day refused to lift while reversing up a steep hill my foot was completly off it.

all in the space of 8 months!

Bet there wishing they hadn't sold it me!
