Poor Radio signal quality after windows tint

Post by MohamedKhairallah »

Hello guys :)

This is my first post here :) I have a Scirocco 1.4 TSI DSG 2011. When i got the car the radio was fine. I tinted the 2 rear side fixed windows and the rear glass. Afterwards i noticed that the FM (I dont listen to AM) Radio signal became really poor. I visited the VW dealer and they advised me to remove the tinting as the tint is covering up the antenna (although i know a friend with a scirocco tinted and radio works fine)

I did so and still no change is noticed. I only noticed one thing, when i place my thumb on the end of the rear left (behind the driver seat) side glass the signal strength goes back to normal and when i remove my thumb the signal drops again. Could that mean that the guy who put the tint damaged the antenna ? :?

Thank you for you support :) ;)

It sounds like what you have just inferred - the guy who carried out your tint has damaged one of the antenna connectors in the glass...

you can have it repaired (i think I have seen a thread on here from a couple of years ago on how to repair them, but it's painstaking), or replaced

Hope it goes well. So long as the damage isn't too great, it could well be repairable with a bit of patience and care.
