Bluetooth Functionality on MFD and phone button on MFSW

Post by charliegilmanuk »

Hi,

My car is a MY2009 GT with red MFD.

I retrofitted a VW OEM bluetooth kit last week (RNS 510 model B, BT version M), I used my VCDS and it's been working perfectly and got the A2DP (with track titles) working after a firmware update.

However, I don't seem to have gained any additional menus on the MFD, and pressing the phone button on the steering wheel appears to do nothing at all (however if I hold the button down for a long 5 seconds, it does call my Dad, strangely). Doesn't even mute like it did before VCDS.

Is this the intended outcome or am I missing some functionality here? I only ticked the one option in VCDS which I think was "Telephone Preparation", are there any more I should be checking?

Or could someone tell me what their setup is like?

Many thanks

Anyone? What does the phone button do on yours? And can it be operated through the MFD?

I'm pretty sure there is more than that in VCDS to enable ... Have a search on here - lots of info on retro fitting Bluetooth, etc.

If you have bought a certain version of the OEM bluetooth kit (ones designed for mk6 golf white MFD) they wont work with the red MFD I fitted one and just get it on the radio.

How did you manage to get track titles though as that's something I would love as mine just says Bluetooth audio and can't skip anything?

Hmm, checked in the tutorials on here and other sites, none of them say any more than just the telephone preparation...

Said to be fully compatible with the red MFD, which it is as far as I can tell, I get track names through bluetooth on the MFD etc. Maybe the phone part is just not supported on the red MFD.

In regards to the track names not displaying, I did a firmware update to version 3810 and this immediately fixed it, as well as adding a couple more buttons to the media menu.
See the following link for the guide: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index ... ic=23779.0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'll post this link on the Bluetooth Fitting Guide here as well, as it seems a bunch of others are having the same problem, thought that was almost basic knowledge that it required a firmware update!

Can you check the coding of your bluetooth module, is there an option listed that mentions BAP?
BAP is the protocol for talking to the white MFD's, the red MFD's used DDP and so the BAP option should not be ticked if it is available.

I know the setting is there in the RNS coding, but i don't have a bluetooth module that supports both protocols so can't check if it's in there too.

Just checked that this evening, to confirm, BAP was unchecked, so judging on what you've said that seems correct.

However, seems to be a bunch of faults on the Telephone module (77):
