Hi, i have a 2012 140 Bluemotion 2.0 TDI.
It is on the long service interval set up and my next service is in 6k according to the MFD, which will put the car on 55k. I just have a few questions.
How much is this service likely to cost at VW? The other two stamps are from VW so I would like it to stay the same, unless some information is disclosed regarding this emissions scandal. For the record it will be its third service.
Secondly, the cambelt. The book suggests 140k I believe, but is there no "after x amount of years?"
Thanks

VW UK recommend the cambelt be changed every 5 years. You can make your own mind upbwhether it's just a revenue generator or not

Personally I would take it off longlife service regime and onto time and distance unless you do a high mileage.
VW do fixed price servicing and a major will cost £300 and a minor around £150. If the brake fluid wasn't changed at 3yrs then that's another £60.

5 years is amazing Ill do that for my piece of mind If i still own it then.
Im guessing the 3rd one will be a major one and for £300 ill probably take it there, if that includes a courtesy car.

,,,or even "Peace" of mind:-)
Dealers will do the cambelt, tensioner and water pump for around £400. These daysvthey have a lot of fixed price deals on.

VW service costs are extortionate. I used to take my Clio RS200 to the main local RenaultSport specialist dealer and a major service (which included spark plugs) cost me £200. I know my local VW specialist does a major service, as per VW guidelines, for £119 on the 2.0 TDi engine. I've been debating going to VW for my service which is due soon but I know they will install the 'update' onto which I don't want and charge me a fortune for no real difference over the local specialist other than a nice showroom to sit in and a 'free' tea or coffee (which I don't drink either). That VW stamp in the book is nice to have but as long as it's serviced on time and to the same standard 99.9% of people won't care who did it.
How they justify £100 per hour labour I don't know when the local independent specialist (with ex VW mechanics) is less than 1 mile away and they charge £35 per hour. Price of a that 'free' coffee and tea I guess.

I could service it myself which Ive always done, but with this car I cant be arsed. £300 every 20k is a pittance For a main dealer service, although I fully appreciate it can be done to the same standard cheaper. I also agree with it not affecting resale. My Type R had reciepts for every single serviceable item, with hand written mileage all in a folder. The buyer was very impressed despite not a single stamp.Paddy_R wrote:VW service costs are extortionate. But I just think for £300, if they aint gonna mess with the ECU (mines mapped anyway?) is a fair price if I get a courtesy car.

I just don't trust them not to mess with the ecu, no matter what assurances they give. Mine isn't remapped but it won't ever be near VW again if I can help it.
