upgrading the HDD (hard disk drive)

Post by pat15312 »

Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody has already tried this?
It would seem like a very easy upgrade but after reading a thread on VWnavi, (http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6992) i'm not so sure.
It would be nice to put in a 64/128GB SSD.
Let me know your thoughts...

Havn't done it personally, but I highly doubt it would present any difficulty.

I would reccomend imaging your orig drive on to the new one before installing it for compatibility reasons, also you can always return to how it came aswell.

If you decide to take the plunge and need a hand drop me a pm, would be my pleasure to help..

yeh most people on vwnavi.com thought it would be easy but if you image the hard drive using a windows pc, windows puts some extra files onto the hard drive which prevents it being able to be reused on the new hard drive and alos renders the old one useless...
any thoughts?

Using decent imaging software (such as Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image) will not modify the drive in any way - windows is not even booted.

oh rite.
in that case then, could you give me an idea or some instructions on how to do the ghosting process???
I may just give this a go, would be awesome to put in a higher capacity SSD drive.
