Hi, recently brought a 2008 2.0 tsi and love it! However i have had a horrible intermittent fault. Every now and then i open the car fine put the key in the ignition and it comes up with immobiliser active- safe. after a few seconds with the key still in the ignition the message clears. On other occasions the msg doesnt clear and it can take 4-5 times of inserting the key and trying again before it clears and i can start the engine.
Took it too my Local VW dealer they ran diagnostics and found it was the key. Luckily i had already ordered another key(i Brought it with one key) so they programmed both the new and old key again and said it had solved it.
A Week later and this fault is back! for a few days nothing then it can strike a few times in one day and on other days not at all.
Anyone experienced this or know what direction i should go in? As i can see it getting expensive :/
Any help appreciated

Re: immobiliser active-SAFE fault
Maybe the immobilizer transponder detection ring in the steering housing is bad.
