2.0tsi - getting a bit frustrated- new engine issue

Post by Wheatley173 »

So I've had the scirocco for about 4 weeks now and I generally love it, but I'm getting it frustrated a little with it.

On my way home from buying the car I had a misfire issue which I got sorted by changing the plugs and coil packs

However I always felt that there was a light hesitation on medium acceleration between 1500-2200 revs. I put this down to just being characteristics of the engine. However I am now finding that this seems to b getting more notic able now the mornings seem to be a bit cooler. Once the engine gets up to temp its massively improved but doesn't quite go away, but after a cold morning start with cooler air it seems a bit too bad to just at dismiss as characteristics.

Any Experience of this issue?

It's seems to be the other way round compared to the first issue I had as my original issue of misfire got worse as the engine got hot and this time the issue is worst when cold.

Thanks

Sounds a bit like turbo lag, if you haven't driven a turbo petrol engine before then it does appear a bit odd at first. I would guess (although I'm no mechanic and stand corrected) that when your car engine is cold, this will be more noticable until everything is up to normal operating temperature...............I guess this is maybe what your experiencing.

There are mods that you can do to improve this, like better coil packs and other ignition components, but an engine remap would probably make the most noticeable difference.

A little lag is pretty normal (probably more when cold) but if it is really severe then maybe you should get a Diagnostic check.

Just my inexperienced opinion but hope this helps!
