Removing old nokia Bluetooth and fitting genuine VW

Post by adamskiuk »

Hi,

I'm new to the forum (and new to the scirocco) but have done a few mods before on Audi's and other VAG cars. Need a little advice on my Car.

I just bought it and it has a RCD510DAB radio installed together with a crude Bluetooth solution. Removing the head unit to discover why DAB didn't work revealed no DAB cable at all (must be a dummy roof antenna) and a rats nest of cables plus the bluetooth unit.

I reckon i can easily remove the old telephone stuff and have already bought a genuine Kit. My questions surrounds a blue cable which appears to go to the ignition barrel. Assuming it gives the Tel module some ignition feed?

Does anyone have any advice on how to safely remove this without tearing up the dash? i.e. can i simply snip the cable and tape up the end and go on installing the new kit?

Hoping someone has done this before and can advise me.

Many thanks

Adam

Are you positive it goes to the ignition barrel?
When I got my Roc, it had a "crude" bluetooth kit as well - getting this out was an absolute HEADACHE!!! The cables were clipped/cable tied behind the steering column and couldnt get to one in particular. I just snipped it and left it in place.. But be entirely sure of where the cable is going; I presume it will be the feed to the fusebox

Not sure the roof antenna does the DAB
There are also antennas in each of the rear side windows. Not sure what one does what but I do know that I have DAB and my roof antenna is no different to other Sciroccos which don't have DAB

I never remember which window either, but the amplifier under one of the rear windows needs to be changed to an FM/DAB one + wire rerouting. I think salsajoe has accomplished this mod in the past.

RW1 (RIP) posted a thread sometime ago about the subtle differences in the scirocco roof antennae
