Keeping Black Clean?

I work for a company based on a farm and despite consistently cleaning and detaining my car at the weekends, the very next day it gets filthy again!

Lesson learned: BLACK WAS NOT THE BEST IDEA!

I am looking for some tips you may have/product recommendations that may be able yo help!

My process:

Clean the car entirely with snowfoam.

Claybar using G3 rapid detailer the whole car.

Polish using Simoniz Polish (gold tin stuff)

Wax, using Beading Marvelous (Carnauba wax)

I then use Glaco (nipponshine product) on all the glass after cleaning with glass cleaner (effectively making windscreenwipers redundant for those that don't know what a product like this does)

As I say after a couple of days the car is filthy and for some reason becomes difficult to just 'wipe off with detailer' as waxing would suggest.

As another point I have some not so deep white scratches on the bonnet, not through to galv so I'm sure these can be cut out, anything to reccomend for this?

Now some pictures just after a detail, this is a 59 Plate and the paintwork is sound!

Dubber, lesson learned for future car purchases, my work colleges white car appears cleaner than mine!

Do you have any tips on scratch repair on black? I don't want to use anything too abrasive but not yet willing to try machine polish!

OK I'll start with the scratches. If you can feel them with a nail they won't polish out. It's pretty much that simple. You can mask them by dulling the 'edges' if the scratch and filling it with a glaze of some description (I'd recommend 50 Cal Detailings Cover UpUp, best I've used by a mile).

As for machine polishing there's nothing to worry about if you stick to a DA/Random Orbit style polisher. They are not as aggressive as a rotary style but can achieve just as good a results with a bit if time and patience.

A black car is a mistake you make once (I've been there and done that) if you like a clean car. A good quality wax will help keep it cleaner and make it easy to clean. Remember you should really only clay once or twice a year, any more and you're just removing the wax you have on. I'm fan of Blackfire Midnight Sun wax.

The scratches were probably caused by the use of the detailer to wipe off dirt. You're effectively dragging the dirt across the paint, never a good idea. Personally I only used quick detailers when at shows to remove dust through the day.

There are plenty of polishes out there to dull the scratches. Meguiars or 3M would be a good starting place.

Thank you very much for the (PUN ALWRT) detailed reply.

I will look at and feel the scratches tommorow, I have a feeling they aren't that deep as they were caused by a holly bush where I work so hopefully I might be able to mask, I f not thank you for the alternative recommendation.

My friend has just bought the new Maguires buffer so will check what type it is, I watched a review about the various pads and polishes and am feeling more confident to give it a go.

Luckily my friends Toyota altezza went boom so we have a car to test stuff on before actually doing it live, I just hear borrow stories.

Indeed the elusive black mistake will not be made again! All it takes is one tractor of the hundreds that pass my car and the car ends up a dark grey colour.

I may well do a 2 or 3 stage wax and see to what degree that helps although this stuff does seem good otherwise.

If you're just starting out on machine polishing then get onto youtube and search for Junkman2000 great detailed informative videos on every aspect of detailing and machine work.

I'd say he's forgot more than most will ever know!

In your environment nothing can stop dirt going on your car.

What I would do though is consider strong synthetic sealants and move away from wax. If you have a machine I can recommend auto finesse power seal.

Pig that on after polishing the car and you'll have at least six months of a very real layer of protection on the paint.

It will still get dirty though, no product I know of can do anything about that!:(
