Almost ready to order new GT

Post by Crispy Duck »

Hi everyone,
I’m getting close to placing an order for a new Scirocco.

I’m going for the GT 180 in Reflex Silver.
(Coming from a Mk 5 Golf GT with the 160 engine, so should be a little bit of a step up, I’ve been very happy with that engine).

Extras I’m definitely adding so far:

18” Lisbon Alloy Wheels
Bi-xenon headlights
Panoramic Sunroof
Folding Door Mirrors
Reversing camera (have this on the Golf and love it).
Dynaudio (again already on the Golf)
Car-Net App Connect
Multi-function Colour Display

Couple of options I’m debating before I pull the trigger:

DCC – I’m a little worried about the ride being a little more rough than the Golf (which already has the GT sports suspension).
I’ve read MANY different opinions on the DCC and as my main concern is keeping comfort (when required) – i’m seriously considering adding the DCC.
Opinions appreciated.

The other is Winter Pack – mainly for the heated seats of course.
I’m sticking with the Alcantara/Cloth seats – I’m not a massive fan of leather – and I do love the Alcantara in the Golf, which still look pristine after 5 and a half years.
(And that’s after spilling a whole tub of KFC gravy on them a couple of months ago!).
Do you think heated cloth seats are overkill? My partner is insistent they are not needed on the cloth, but I dunno, they might be nice in the winter.

Anyone else have the heated cloth seats?

It’s a lot of options added I realise, but as I tend to keep my cars for 4-5 years minimum, I want to future proof it.
All opinions appreciated.

I have the heated cloth seats in mine and quite like having them, could easily do without but my gf loves them n uses them even at this time of year! Future proof wise I would say the dcc would be worth it as 580 extra over 5 years is pennies. I live in a city centre n only ever use normal or sport.
Silver tho...really!?

The DCC is £820 in the new May 2015 price list, so is quite pricey, hence my hesitation.
Another factor is the GT has 18" wheels (either the Interlagos or Lisbon), whereas my Golf has 17".

Silver yeah, I do love my silver cars! (I'm 41, not sure if age has something to do with it). Sciroccos are quite rare in silver. I do love the white, but practically every Scirocco I've seen in the past 2 weeks has been in white.
I do think the facelift model looks smart in silver:

It's personal preference at the end of the day though.

Yeah that is one unfortunate thing about White is how common as muck they are! But then I think, there is a reason for that! I like grey but my last two cars (only ever had three in my life) were grey, and black is way too non descript. Plus I bought second hand so didn't have that much of a choice. I would go wi the Lisbon too cos I like them and they are different from the millions equipped with interlagos. Had a look at the link, spose the silver allows the shape of the car to be seen-like the white does.
Either way sounds like you'll have an awesome rocco soon!

if i am honest i don't find the comfort mode to be considerably more comfortable than the normal mode and the sport mode is just to hard for normal use, Normal is pretty much ok for 99% of the time, . Mine is a 60 plate so unless they have improved the differences in DCC over the last 5 years id keep my £820.

But isn't DCC, even in normal mode, continually making adjustments to the suspension, adapting to the road surface?

Whereas a non-DCC car has 'standard', non-adapting suspension.

Furthermore, I've read that the standard suspension is actually closer to a DCC in sport mode. Agh, decision, decisions.

Hi, I've got a Reflex silver and I love the colour, not many around, that said I've just ordered a R-line in indium grey. Did you know you lose the DAB radio if you have the reversing camera? I looked at it but decided I wanted the DAB more. Also the DCC is ok but 90% of the time mines in normal so I've not bothered on my new car seemed a bit expensive. Also each to their own I think heated seats are overrated got them in my car but never use them the car heater warms up before the seats, plus I don't like the sensation that you've wet your self  I know lots will disagree.

I'm sure that was true of the older RCD systems, but there's no mention in the new May 2015 price list of losing DAB radio if ordering the reversing camera.
I think the new MIB II Discover system can handle both the DAB and the camera.
To be honest I can't stand radio and listen to music through my iPhone 99% of the time, so personally would choose the camera over DAB.

I'm 100% set on the silver :o)

Ha. I do think they are a non-essential on cloth seat. Winter pack also includes the heated washer jets and low-fluid warning.
Also, I don't like the empty buttons where the heated seat controls would be!

Ah your probably right about the reverse camera, I ordered mine mid April and you lost the DAB but then again there was no mention about the Discover infotainment system when I ordered, that said I've been told I am getting it because of when my build week is which is a nice bonus.
Good choice with the silver  I would have gone for it again but for some reason you can't have a silver R-line :?

If you have DCC it alters your steering and throttle response so sport is better for going quick. If you decided to go coil overs at a later date you still get the steering and throttle changes on the button. It is expensing but one of those mods you can't get at a later date like cruise control.

On the Scirocco, the DCC does not change the throttle response or sensitivity, only the steering weight and the damper firmness

Just my opinion, but if you've never had it you won't miss it.

Thanks for the responses

I won't be doing any mods to the car. My main concern is keeping the option of comfortable suspension if the 18" feel rough.

I run 19s and the ride is fine even in the "sport" mode and the roads around here are pretty bad.

Have you driven a Scirocco without DCC?

I'd almost made my mind up to add it, but I could actually save £820 or get some other options instead.

I've had a part-exchange price for my Golf now so I just need to finalise my options and get the car ordered this week. Going to wait for September plates though as the car would likely be ready mid-end August.

What's also interesting is it used to be standard above the 1.4 engine (if i'm correct).

Now the only car it is standard on across all Sciroccos and Golfs is the Scirocco R. Wonder why that is?

My first roc had dcc and I ran 19 wheels and ran it in sport all the time my new r line is on 19 wheels without dcc and its firm I would say just little softer than sport but you don't miss it and at the option price it's a lot of money I wouldn't bother as handling is excellent
