Water in footwell

Post by daves2369 »

Hi Guys,

Just got my car back from VW after having it for 3 weeks carrying out warranty work on replacement timing chain and tensioner + a new fuel pump due to cold start noises

I noticed there is some water in the footwell under my mats (see attached pictures) i noticed they were slight damp so lifted them up to find sitting droplets of water they did valet the car so it could of been this but i noticed a couple months back that the footwell light was rusty also,

does anyone know where water could get into the car for it to sit under the footwell?

Trial and error unfortunately with leaks, on a dry day, get a hose and spray water on various parts of the car and check for where it's coming from. Maybe get the seat out and carpet up too, perhaps water being pushed up through the underside ? Seems like a lot of water for rinsing after a wash and the footwell too far away from the windows (obvious entry point) - I'd spend a bit of time spraying water around and see where it's coming through- do u have a sunroof? Not dripping through there? Check seals? Probably a time consuming task but if u have rust already would suggest it's a worthwhile one.

Cheers for the reply, I planned on fitting bluetooth this weekend so I might have ago while all the dash is off in the footwell, i don't have a sunroof no atleast that's one place ruled off ha ha

having rust on the footwell light i would of thought its coming from somewhere above the footwell so ill give the bonnet and windscreen a hose down and see as a start

I had a leak in my foot well when I got the car, sent It back to vw and they said the windscreen wasn't sealed right. It might not be the same thing but it's something to look into
