scirocco drinking too much engine oil? Please Advice

Post by jayroc »

Hi guys,
my engine oil was full when I set out yesterday for an 800 mile journey so I was shocked when the yellow LOW LEVEL engine oil level came on on the dashboard!
Is this car known to be drinking lots of oil or is something wrong?
I've only always used the manufacturers specified LONG LIFE ENGINE OIL WITH VW EXACT SPECIFICATION!!
Please your comments will be most appreciated as I need to resolve this ASAP.
Thanks

Check Engine light is on!

Post by jayroc »

Hi Guys,
I've been doing some investigation regarding my earlier post talking about engine oil light And the car Needing more oil. Well the car does not need any oil and the oil level is ok.
I have just been told that the light is called ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT and there is nothing wrong with the engine oil level
I'm 800 miles from home and would like to know if it's safe to drive back to London for it to be fixed.
Your advice will be most appreciated
thanks

Engine management light generally means don't drive and report to dealership. Call the nearest VW garage to ask or ur breakdown provider as could be a number of factors putting the light on. Ideally you will need it plugged in and diagnosed, I wouldn't drive it if u can help it (unless VW have said to drive it to them) as may risk damage/further damage depending what's wrong.

As long as the EML is yellow and there are no STOP or WORKSHOP messsges popping up on the MFD then it's safe to drive to the nearest VW garage. I wouldn't risk 800 miles though.

As said above almost anything can trigger an EML. Basically it's just saying a fault.has been stored. It needs scanned with VCDS to locate the issue.

just find a local garage with a code reader, will cost you like £20 for diagnostics, read the fault code and see whats up. Could be something minor, it wont be anything more then a bad sensor if the car is still running ok.

I think your looking into this a bit to much mate, find a local garage, ask them to plug in and read the fault code and get them to explain it to you, clear the code and see if it comes back. Unlike what the video says half the time the lights dont come back, sometimes sensors go out of range and throw a light up 1 time.

If it comes back then check out whatever sensor came up... If you need any more info post up the fault code... Happy to help
