Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but you'll have to forgive me as I'm a noob to this forum.
I bought a 60 plate GT TDI (140) in March this year from Whiterose VW in Skipton, North Yorkshire. This is the first VW I've ever owned so kind of still getting used to it. I was looking at Awesome GTI's website the other day at springs and shockers and things and I noticed that it mentioned about axle weight and how that can be found on a black VIN sticker on the passenger door or under the bonnet on an inner wing (see pic). I can't find such a sticker - is there always one?
I should probably mention at this point that there's a good chance I may have bought a lemon as I've evidence of a respray down the passenger side of the car - something I didn't notice when looking at the car initially, and my service book is a dupilcate service book with 1 stamp in it, and that stamp is from the dealer I bought the car off for a major service about a week before I bought it. I thought that it would be OK as I bought it from a main dealer and have the Das WeltAuto warranty - this may prove to be a mistake later on down the line!
So do you think that the black sticker may have been removed when they resprayed that side of the car - or was there never one there? I have a sticker on the drivers side door telling me how to set the tyre pressure sensor and that's all the stickers I have on the doors.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't advise on the vin sticker. But if you're car has full VW service history then ask the dealer for a print out. I was in the same position as yourself with a duplicate service book. VW however provided with a print out showing when the car was serviced and at what mileage.
They should also be able to tell you where it was serviced. I then contacted the retailers and found what had been done on each service. Hope this helps.

Re: Black VIN Plate Sticker
Thanks for the reply Gaz. I emailed VW customer services last night and got a call about 10 mins ago from a lovely lass called Sam. They have no record of the car service history on file - she said it must have been serviced outside of the VW network. Potentially not good. But she assured me that the car would have had it's 142 point check and mileage referenced against wear etc. She also said that the VIN sticker could be on the passenger door near the hinge - so will check that later. But apparently I can order this from the dealership, along with a VW build/data sticker to stick in my service book.
The car has been back to the dealership twice since March, once because the DCC light kept flashing - fixed by reinstalling the software and the other for steering wheel wobble and vague handling - fixed by front wheel realignment - all done under warranty. Aside from the usual rattles which seem to affect every Scirocco, it seems OK.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I still don't have the sticker but I can order one from the dealers. I'm shit out of luck in regards to the service history but never mind!

Sticker may be under the boot carpet on the left hand side

The data sticker is stuck on the boot floor, a copy of which is stuck in the front of the service booklet. The black VIN plate should be in the driver's door check.

Re: Black VIN Plate Sticker
It seems that I only have one of those and that's the sticker in boot under the carpet - the service book is a duplicate so has no sticker in it. Something has happened to it in the past (I think) thats not recorded on any insurance records, and it's been resprayed (hence the missing VIN plate). The car is handling crap at the moment too so I'm losing faith in it a bit.

Did you have it HPI checked before you bought it?
