Sport mode !!!

Post by lowfer »

Hi Guys, new to the forum. Bought my candy white 2 tsi GT 10 days ago now. Loving the car. However, I have a bit of a question. This evening driving along a fast Aroad I was following an oldish 3 serious coupe. Flipped it to sport just to see how it would handle. What ensued was a little bit of a but clenching experience. Going round a fast left handed, the car shimmied and the traction control came on and I slowed down. My conclusion from this was that the hard sport setting couple with some bumps mid corner unsettled the car. Would I be right in thinking that sport mode on the awful roads around the uk can lead to these sorts of experiences. The 3 series shot of into the distance and I slowed down. Would I be better to leave it in normal. Thanks Lowfer.

I've experienced a similar thing, mine is dropped on eibach and has the 19s, so when in sport on crap tarmac things can get a little skippy!

I agree with Andy on this one, living in the New Forest finds me driving on roads with changing cambers on bends which cause the same.

I remember watching something like Top Gear where they drove a GTR and a Focus RS on the same A road and the Focus won. The traction control on the GTR hated the surface and just kept cutting power.

Thanks for your responses guys. I think the conclusion from this is not to use sport mode unless I am on smooth roads.

I Drive 90% of the time in Normal. Find it adapts quite well to the road and how hard your pushing.
5% of the time in Comfort when im off-roading ;) well at least it feels like off-roading down some of the potholed roads.
5% in Sports mode. I would drive in Sports mode a lot more if the roads were not so terrible in this country!
