MAF sensors

Post by Stu13R »

I have read loads of threads on here about MAF replacent, upgrades and deletion, with various views.

As some of these posts are fairly old does anyone have an up to date opinion based on what they have done and how it has worked out? I'm interested in reliability and at what stage of tune is it best to upgrade or delete altogether?

in 7 years of reading about these engines being tuned I have not come across someone deleting it.

people who have had issues have used larger diameter pipework where the maf is located where the map has not been calibrated to take this into effect

the rumour was rife with oiled filters causing issues to mad sensors, again never really seen a case unless someone has over oiled it after cleaning

Thanks Wigit, does that mean where ever I get my remapping would just calibrate the MAF?

There is a recalibration needed if the cross sectional area increases, but not on stock diameters, APR did this on big turbo kits and GIAC do

There was a lets widen the intake pipe peiod where people realised it does work, this is why the ITG/VWR and Revo intakes step down but keep the stock MAF diameter
